RTRS: Gold climbs on stronger oil, flight to safety

LONDON (Reuters) - Gold rose more than 2 percent on Tuesday as oil prices climbed and a downturn in European stock markets fuelled buying of bullion as a haven from risk.

Spot gold was quoted at $882.50/884.50 an ounce at 0840 GMT, up from $857.45 an ounce late in New York on Monday.

Silver tracked gold higher, rising to a session peak of $11.58 an ounce before settling back to $11.56/11.66 an ounce, up from $11.01 an ounce late in New York on Monday.
