FBS: Copper drops 14 pct to lowest since January 2006

LONDON, Oct 10 (Reuters) - Copper prices fell to their lowest since January 2006 on Friday and other metals dropped more than six percent, analysts said.

'Commodities are following equities,' analyst John Meyer at investment bank Fairfax said.

'The problems in the Western world have now spread to Asia ... the developing world will be less able to offset the recession in the West,' he said.

Copper for three-month delivery on the London Metal Exchange fell 14 percent to a low of $4,570 a tonne -- the lowest since January 2006, before trading at $4,695 by 1348 GMT.

Last week the metal shed 15.4 percent and prices have almost halved since hitting a high of $8,940 in July.
