1200: Footsie looks set to finish the week on a high having built on its early gains. Antofagasta leads miners higher. The sector is recovering after some sharp falls in recent days. Oil stocks are also going well. Only a handful of stocks are in the red. FTSE 100 up 160 at 4,329.

1050: Footsie maintains its buoyancy, with resource stocks dominating the risers. Oil groups are going well, as are miners which are boosted by higher metals prices. Defensive stocks such as utilities National Grid and Severn Trent are among the least favoured today. FTSE 100 up 119 at 4,288.

0915: Footsie has held onto its early gains, with miners among the top risers after metals prices recovered. In Shanghai, copper advanced by the maximum allowed in a day. Only a couple of defensive stocks - household products group Reckitt Benckiser and electricity group National Grid - are in the red. FTSE 100 up 137 at 4,306.

0830: Footsie has made a strong start with miners in demand again while the LSE and Man bounce off their recent lows. Anglo American is the best performer, with rival Xstrata also going well. LSE and Man are both up over 7%. There are currently no fallers on Footsie. FTSE 100 up 127 at 4,297.
