MY: Mkts end with good gains; Metal, banks, oil & gas up 3%
 
Markets closed with good gains after extremely choppy session. The BSE Bankex outperformed the other sectoral indices; it was up nearly 4%. Good buying interest was also seen in metal, oil & gas, power and capital goods stocks. The BSE Midcap and Small Cap indices closed up 1.58% and 0.78% respectively.

On the global front, Asian markets closed mixed. European markets are trading higher; FTSE and DAX were up nearly 1% each.

The Sensex closed up 204.60 points or 2.19% at 9533.52, It has touched an intra day high of 9,550.40 and an intra day low of 9,162.66.

The Nifty was up 64.95 points or 2.27% at 2922.20. It has touched an intra day high of 2931.80 and an intra day low of 2812.90.

About 1439 shares have advanced, 1294 shares declined, and 469 shares are unchanged.


The BSE bankex was up 3.71% or 193 points at 5404.

The BSE metal index was up 3.23% or 159 points at 5109.

The BSE oil & gas index was 2.87% or 169 points at 6078.

The BSE power index was up 2% or 35 points at 1782.

The BSE capital goods index was up 1.24% or 82 points at 6682.

The BSE IT index was 1.14% or 24 points at 2173.

The BSE healthcare index was up 1.08% or 31 points at 2919.

The BSE realty index was up 0.26% or 5.81 points at 2206.

The BSE FMCG index was up 0.22% or 4.32 points at 1983.

However, the BSE auto index was down 0.63% or 14 points at 2349.

Total turnover stood at Rs 45784.87 crore. This includes Rs 9054.51 crore from NSE Cash segment, Rs 33326.10 crore from NSE F&O and the balance Rs 3404.26 crore from BSE cash segment.
