MW : FSA, CFTC to boost oversight of oil markets

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The U.K.'s Financial Services Authority (FSA) and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) said Thursday that they've taken steps to strengthen cross-border supervision of the energy futures markets. Cooperation between the two regulators may include direct access rights to trade execution and audit trail data, mutual on-site visits of exchange operators, and coordination of taking emergency action. "I believe that we must effectively utilize all existing powers to ensure that futures markets remain free of manipulation, fraud or other market abuses," said CFTC chairman Gary Gensler in a statement. "Achieving this goal requires a coordinated international response."
