Johannesburg – The National Mineworkers Union said yesterday it had suspended an indefinite strike set to start today at the world’s No2 platinum producer, Impala Platinum, after receiving an improved wage offer.
A strike at Impala Platinum could have pushed up prices of the precious metal used in catalytic converters and in jewellery.
“It looks like we got what we wanted,” said Lesiba Seshoka, spokesman for the NUM. “We will suspend the strike, pending consultations with members.” – Reuters
