MW : Energy stocks open higher in tandem with crude

SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Energy stocks moved higher at the open Friday, bouyed by gains in the underlying crude-oil market in response to a 0.2% uptick last month in U.S. consumer spending. The Philadelphia Oil Service Sector Index (OSX 179.36, +1.19, +0.67%) was leading the sector's advance, up 1.5% at 180 points. The NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI 1,001, +3.56, +0.36%) was ahead 0.7% and the NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index (XNG 464.53, +2.24, +0.49%) was up 1% in opening trades. The October crude futures contract was back above $73 a barrel, last trading 76 cents higher at $73.25.
