BLBG : Indian Stocks Fall; Sterlite Leads Metals Producers Lower
Aug. 31 (Bloomberg) -- India’s benchmark stock index fell, paring the monthly gain, led by metal producers after prices of commodities declined.
Sterlite Industries (India) Ltd., the largest copper and zinc producer, dropped 1.9 percent after the price of the metals fell in Asia. Hindalco Industries Ltd., the nation’s biggest aluminum producer, also slid 1.9 percent.
The Bombay Stock Exchange’s Sensitive Index, or Sensex, lost 175.71, or 1.1 percent, to 15,746.63 at 9:58 a.m. in Mumbai trading. The gauge is set to gain 0.6 percent this month. The S&P CNX Nifty Index on the National Stock Exchange lost 1.2 percent to 4,678.05. The BSE 200 Index decreased 0.9 percent to 1,931.06.
