| LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares edged higher on Tuesday, with media firms helping the advance as Vivendi (FR:VIV 19.87, +0.10, +0.48%) shares rose 3.9% after reporting second-quarter results and Havas (FR:HAV 2.13, -0.06, -2.52%) shares climbed 11.4%. Construction firms were also strong, with Vinci (FR:DG 37.43, -0.48, -1.25%) shares up 3.5%. The French CAC-40 index rose 0.8% to 3,682.37, the German DAX index climbed 0.5% to 5,493.52 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index advanced 0.1% to 4,915.52. |
