MW: Dollar stays down after sentiment report

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- The U.S. dollar extended losses on Friday after the Reuters/University of Michigan consumer sentiment survey rose to 70.2 for September, a better-than-expected improvement from last month. The dollar index (DXY 76.53, -0.29, -0.37%) , a measure of the greenback against a trade-weighted basket of currencies, stood lately at 76.637, down from 76.824 in North American trading Thursday afternoon. The index has lost about 2% this week, and continued a slide to its lowest level in a year on Friday after another round of surprisingly strong Chinese economic data further boosted investors' appetite for riskier assets.
