RTRS : U.S. stock index futures point to softer opening
 
* U.S. stock index futures fall, indicating a weaker start for Wall Street on Tuesday. The futures for Dow Jones industrial average DJc1, the S&P 500 SPc1 and the Nasdaq Composite NDc1 were down 0.1 to 0.3 percent by 0820 GMT. * The U.S. S&P/Case-Shiller home price index for July is due at 1300 GMT. Economists in a Reuters survey expected prices to rise 0.5 percent versus a 1.4 percent increase in the previous month.

* The Conference Board releases September consumer confidence numbers at 1400 GMT. Economists in a Reuters survey expected a reading of 57.0 compared with 54.1 in August.

* UBS (UBS.N) (UBSN.VX) Chief Executive Oswald Gruebel said Paine Webber, the bank's U.S. wealth management unit, is "non-core" but the bank will not sell at present, the Financial Times quoted him as saying. [ID:nLT463000]

* Dell Inc (DELL.O) on Monday unveiled its latest high-end, ultra-thin personal computer, bringing some fresh design appeal to its enterprise models. [ID:nN2871830]

* Goldman Sachs (GS.N) is seeking a banking license in India to expand its product offerings, India's Economic Times newspaper said.

* European planemaker Airbus (EAD.PA) confirmed on Tuesday it had cut its 2009 delivery target for A380s by one aircraft to 13 planes and said it was maintaining its delivery forecast for 2010. [ID:nLT191078]

* Delta Air Lines (DAL.N) said on Monday that it has closed $2.1 billion of financing deals that have bolstered its liquidity by $600 million. [ID:nN28101029]

* U.S. companies reporting results on Tuesday include Nike NKE, Micron Tech MU, Walgreen WAG and Jabil Circuit JBL.

* The dollar rose against the yen on Tuesday as a rebound from an eight-month low prompted investors to trim short positions and after Japan's finance minister said currency intervention was possible in extreme cases. The yen's retreat helped lift the Nikkei average .N225 0.9 percent.

* European shares .FTEU3 ticked down 0.2 percent, with weaker commodity issues offsetting gains made by financials.

* Oilfield services company Cameron International Corp (CAM.N) struck a $500 million subsea equipment deal with Petrobras (PETR4.SA) in the offshore Brazil market, and Cameron's shares rose more than 1 percent in after-hours trading. [ID:nN28107094]

* Chief Executive Howard Schultz called Starbucks Corp's SUBX.O Via Ready Brew "perhaps the biggest opportunity" in company history as he prepared for the instant coffee product's North American roll-out on Tuesday. [ID:nN2896905]

* Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas President Richard Fisher will give a status report on the economy before the Texas Christian University Business Network of Dallas Breakfast.

* U.S. stocks rallied on Monday, snapping a three-day losing streak, as a spurt of corporate takeovers in the technology and health-care sectors fuelled optimism about share values. Mergers and acquisitions are typically viewed as bullish as it suggests companies are more optimistic about the business outlook.

* The Dow Jones industrial average .DJI rose 124.17 points, or 1.28 percent, to end at 9,789.36. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index .SPX gained 18.60 points, or 1.78 percent, to 1,062.98.
