KARACHI: The American currency was slightly down versus the rupee in the interbank market, dealers said on Wednesday.
The dollar initiated the day’s trading at Rs 83.15 for buying, depreciated and closed at Rs 83.13 for buying and Rs 83.18 for selling. Therefore, the rupee incurred a gain of two paisas.
However, the European single currency gained grounds, as it started the day’s trading at Rs 121.34 for buying, incurred gains and closed at Rs 121.49 for buying and Rs 121.69 for selling. Thus, the local currency incurred a loss of 15 paisas.
The pound sterling incurred gains versus the rupee, as it started the day’s trading at Rs 131.92 for buying, depreciated and closed at Rs 133.57 for buying and Rs 133.77 for selling. Thus, the local currency incurred a loss of Rs 1.65.
Open market: The dollar strengthened versus the rupee, dealers said. The dollar commenced the day’s trading at Rs 82.95 for buying, appreciated and closed at Rs 83.00 for buying and Rs 83.10 for selling. Therefore, the rupee incurred a loss of five paisas.
Similarly, the pound sterling gained grounds as the it the day’s trading at Rs 120.20 for buying, registered gains and closed at Rs 120.45 for buying and Rs 121.05 for selling. Therefore, the rupee incurred a loss of 25 paisas.
As like the dollar and euro, the pound also continued its upward trend against the rupee, as it started the day’s trading at Rs 130.75 for buying, appreciated and closed at Rs 132.00 for buying and Rs 132.50 for selling. Thus, the local currency incurred a loss of Rs 1.25. staff report
