KATHMANDU: With its trading price at Rs 29,900 per tola (11.666 gram), gold broke its own record price twice in
the month of Aswin (Sept-Oct). In 2008-09, the record price of gold was broken thrice while this year it is twice in the same month.
On July 16, 2008 gold broke its record with Rs 25,450 per tola. It shot
up to Rs 25,500 per tola
on October 13, 2008 and
Rs 29,800 per tola on
February 22, 2009.
This nonce, theprice went up to Rs 29,860 per tola on September 17, 2009 and today it shot up to Rs 29,900 per tola.
Since 2008, till date gold has broken its own record price five times.
According to Shakya, Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers’ Association (NEGOSIDA) president Tej Ratna Shakya, due to high fluctuation in the trading price of gold in the domestic market this festival
season the domestic transaction of gold dropped to below 10 kg per day.
“Last Tihar, the per
day gold transaction was 15-16 kg but we do not think it will be like last year,” said Shakya.
Meanwhile, gold in the international market was traded for $1056 per ounce as the market opened though there were fluctuations of around $1063 per ounce, Shakya said. He added that predictions are also being made regarding gold being priced at $1065 per ounce in the international market soon.
Meanwhile, NEGOSIDA also urged the government to provide security to gold and silver traders. It said that traders in this business are time and again getting robbed. On October 12, four criminals robbed Shakya Jyasa at Naghal of Kathmandu in broad daylight.
