RTRS: PRECIOUS-Gold steady, remains above $1,050
 
TOKYO, Oct 19 (Reuters) - Gold was steady holding above
$1,050 per ounce on Monday after rising slightly on investment
buying in the previous session.
FUNDAMENTALS
* Gold XAU= was at $1,052.60 per ounce at 2343 GMT, up 0.2
percent.
* U.S. gold futures for December delivery GCZ9 were at
$1,054 per ounce, up 0.2 percent.
* The world's largest gold-backed exchange-traded fund, the
SPDR Gold Trust (GLD), said its holdings stood at 1,109.314
tonnes as of Oct. 16, unchanged from the previous business day.

* Noncommercial net long U.S. gold futures positions were up
about 6 percent to 253,955 lots in the week to Oct 13 from
239,668 lots, a weekly report by the U.S. Commodity Futures
Trading Commission showed. [ID:nN16366747]
MARKET NEWS
* U.S. stocks fell on Friday after disappointing results from
General Electric Co (GE.N) and Bank of America Corp (BAC.N)
demonstrated the road to economic recovery will be bumpy. [.N]
* The dollar recovered some of the week's losses on Friday,
as news of a large quarterly loss at Bank of America and flagging
consumer confidence dulled investor demand for higher-yielding,
higher-risk currencies. [USD/]
* Crude oil rose to a one-year high above $78 a barrel on
Friday after data showed U.S. industrial production expanded in
September, boosting optimism for an economic recovery. [O/R]
