PARIS, Oct 26 (Reuters) - European stocks lost ground in late trade on Monday, down 0.8 percent, as heavyweight energy shares surrendered early gains following a drop in oil prices while the dollar rebounded.
At 1546 GMT, the FTSEurofirst 300 .FTEU3 index of top European shares was down 0.8 percent at 1,000.41 points.
Total (TOTF.PA) was down 0.5 percent and Repsol (REP.MC) was down 1.2 percent.
Insurers were the biggest losers, with Dutch bancassurer ING Group NV (ING.AS) plummeting 17 percent after saying it will split the company in two and launch a 7.5 billion euro rights issue. (Reporting by Blaise Robinson, editng by Atul Prakash)
