LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares were lower on Wednesday, with technology firm SAP (DE:SAP 32.02, -2.37, -6.88%) and steel giant Arcelor-Mittal (NL:MT 23.80, -0.70, -2.86%) down by more than 5% after updating investors. Still insurance firms were gaining, with U.K. insurance firm Prudential (UK:PRU 585.50, -26.50, -4.34%) (PUK 19.81, -0.09, -0.45%) up 1.1% after posting sales figures and Allianz (DE:ALV 79.53, -0.37, -0.46%) shares rose 1.4% in Frankfurt. The U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 0.5% to 5,173.07, the German DAX index fell 0.3% to 5,617.13 and the French CAC-40 index lost 0.6% to 3,720.18.
