NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- U.S. stocks on Friday opened with a modest retreat after the market's largest single-day rise in more than three months. Insurers fronted the losses as the major indexes headed to likely losses for the week, and a mixed picture for the month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average (INDU 9,938, -25.01, -0.25%) fell 36.27 points to 9,926.31. The S&P 500 (SPX 1,063, -3.39, -0.32%) declined 5.08 points to 1,061.03. The Nasdaq Composite (COMP 2,091, -6.52, -0.31%) shed 6.96 points to 2,090.59.
