Indian rupee strengthened against the greenback in the early trades mirroring strong cues from Asian and local equity markets.
At 9:18 a.m. the partially convertible rupee was at 47.17/18 against the dollar, stronger by 0.47% than its previous close of 47.40/41.
Asian stocks rose as gains by metal producers on record-high gold prices overshadowed a downgrade on semiconductor companies. Japanese benchmark index Nikkei 225 fell 14.86 points, or 0.15%, to trade at 9,788.09 while Hong Kong`s Hang Seng index gained 156.44 points, or 0.74%, to trade at 21,396.50.(7.45 a.m., IST)
Meanwhile, India`s benchmark index, The 30-share, BSE Sensex opened with a gain of 83.03 points, at 15,487.97 on Wednesday.
