LONODN (MarketWatch) -- European shares climbed in early trade on Monday, with miners advancing as the dollar moved lower against the euro and sterling. Rio Tinto (UK:RIO 3,133, 0.00, 0.00%) shares were up 4.1%, Xstrata (UK:XTA 1,014, 0.00, 0.00%) shares climbed 3.6%, and Randgold Resouces shares rose 4.6%. Broker upgrades were also lending a hand, with Aviva (UK:AV. 405.10, 0.00, 0.00%) up 2.4% and ThyssenKrupp (DE:TKA 23.92, +0.47, +2.00%) up 3.3%. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.7% to 5.332.94, the German Dax rose 1.2% to 5,751.53 and the French CAC-40 index climbed 0.8% to 3,837.10. |
