LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares moved off lows on Tuesday, helped by gains from selected financial firms. Shares of Swiss bank UBS (CH:UBSN 17.68, +0.20, +1.14%) (UBS 17.35, +0.38, +2.24%) rose 0.9%, shares of insurer Fortis (BE:FORB 2.97, +0.08, +2.87%) were up 3.2%, and National Bank of Greece (NBG 6.95, -0.30, -4.14%) shares climbed 4%. The German DAX index lost 0.1% to 5,800.53, the French CAC-40 index slipped 0.1% to 3,859.24 and the U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 0.2% to 5,370.69. |
