MW: Energy stocks rise with oil prices, broad market

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Energy stocks started out the last month of 2009 with gains on Tuesday as the broad market rose and oil prices climbed higher while jitters eased over the Dubai fiscal crisis. The NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI 1,089, +20.65, +1.93%) rose 1.7% to 1,087. The NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index (XNG 510.78, +9.14, +1.82%) rose 1.5% to 509. The Philadelphia Oil Service Index (OSX 194.69, +3.86, +2.02%) added 1.8% to 194. Crude oil futures rose $1.16 to $78.44 a barrel. The S&P 500 rose 1% to 1,107. Sector leader Exxon Mobil (XOM 75.97, +0.90, +1.20%) rose 1.2% to $75.97.
