LONDON (MarketWatch) -- Banks weakened in Europe on Wednesday, pulling stocks across the region off early highs. Shares of HSBC Holdings (UK:HSBA 716.40, -9.63, -1.33%) (HBC 60.18, +1.17, +1.98%) fell 2% while Barclays (UK:BARC 289.35, -6.80, -2.30%) (BCS 19.67, -0.06, -0.30%) shares fell 2.9%. Overall, the U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 0.1% to 5,307.93, the German DAX index traded flat at 5,775.32 and the French CAC-40 index also traded flat at 3,776.57. |
