MW: Gold taps more records, nears $1,225 on Globex

TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures hit yet another record level in electronic trading Thursday morning in Tokyo, nearing $1,225 an ounce. December gold climbed as high as $1,224.50 on Globex but later eased slightly to $1,224.00, up $12, or 1%. It closed at $1,212 Wednesday in New York, up $12.90. The metal's recent gains are being driven by "upbeat sentiment and strong investment demand," analysts at Credit Suisse said in a note to clients.
