RTRS: Dollar extends gains, climbs 1 pct on day vs yen
LONDON, Dec 15 (Reuters) - The dollar extended broad gains on Tuesday, climbing more than 1 percent on the day against the yen as traders continued to close short positions in the U.S. currency ahead of their year-end book closings.
The dollar JPY= rallied to around 89.50 yen, a session high, with traders citing stop-loss orders triggered around 89.10 yen and upwards.
The U.S. currency also climbed against the euro, which was sold heavily on deepening concern over the euro zone banking sector and fiscal health of some of the bloc's weaker economies.
The euro fell to a 2 1/2-month low of $1.4526, according to Reuters data, down almost one percent on the day.
