WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) -- U.S. consumer prices rose a seasonally adjusted 0.4% in November, as energy prices surged in the month, the Labor Department reported Wednesday. Taking out volatile food and energy prices, consumer prices were flat in November. In the past year, the consumer price index has risen 1.8%, while the core CPI has climbed 1.7%. Economists surveyed by MarketWatch were expecting consumer prices to climb by 0.4% in November and expecting core prices to rise by 0.1%.
