MW: Gold futures extend gains in early trade

By Polya Lesova
FRANKFURT (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures edged higher early Monday, extending their gains from the previous session. Gold for February delivery, the most actively traded contract, rose $4.70 to $1,116.20 an ounce in electronic trading on Globex. Earlier, it climbed to an intraday high of $1,120.80 an ounce. Gold for December delivery, the front-month contract, gained $5 to $1,115.80 an ounce. Speculative buying may provide further support in the coming sessions, said analysts at TheBullionDesk.com in a note to clients. However, "with the stronger dollar still the primary driving force, the metal remains at risk to a dip back to the $1,050-$1,080 area," they said.
