MW: Hong Kong shares pulled higher by commodity stocks

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Hong Kong stocks notched modest early gains Thursday, with resource shares spurred by overnight increases in commodity prices although financials were mixed in the absence of clear directional cues from Wall Street. The Hang Seng Index added 0.1% to 22,439.31, rising for a third straight session, and the Hang Seng China Enterprises Index gained 0.2% to 13,267.34. Cnooc Ltd. (HK:883 13.16, +0.14, +1.08%) (CEO 169.36, +2.86, +1.72%) rose 1.4% and Jiangxi Copper Co. Ltd. (HK:358 19.36, -0.14, -0.72%) (JIXA.Y 100.52, -1.03, -1.01%) added 1.3%. China's Shanghai Composite advanced 0.3% to 3,245.79.
