MW: Indian shares waver as metal stocks up, techs down

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Indian shares swung between positive and negative ground in early trading Thursday, as metals stocks rose on an overnight increase in commodity prices, while technology companies led by Infosys Technologies Ltd. (INFY 56.11, -0.87, -1.53%) declined, tracking Nasdaq weakness. The 30-stock Sensex slipped 0.1% to 17,682.22 after moving in both directions, while the broader 50-share S&P/CNX Nifty index was flat at 5,283.55. Infosys shares fell 1.5% after its Nasdaq-listed shares also dropped by a similar margin overnight, with base metals company Sterlite Industries Ltd. (SLT 19.91, +0.14, +0.71%) as well as Tata Steel Ltd. rising 0.4% each.
