NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Energy stocks fell back more steeply than the broad market on Tuesday, as oil prices dropped below $82 a barrel and Chevron (CVX 79.69, -1.19, -1.47%) sounded a cautious note in its mid-quarter update. The NYSE Arca Oil Index (XOI 1,105, -16.24, -1.45%) fell 1.5% to 1,105. The NYSE Arca Natural Gas Index (XNG 555.62, -6.12, -1.09%) subtracted 1.3% to 555. The Philadelphia Oil Service Index (OSX 210.85, -3.60, -1.68%) subtracted 2.2% to 210. Chevron fell 1.3% to $79.82.
