MY: Sensex ends flat
 
At the close, the 30-share benchmark index, BSE Sensex ended flat with a decline of 14.82 points or 0.08% at 17,471.24, 17 components registering drop. while the broad based NSE Nifty closed flat with a decline of 5.10 points or 0.10%, at 5,220.55.29 components posting drop.

Sensex Movers

Oil & Natural Gas Corporation contributed fall of 20.98 points in the Sensex. It was followed by Reliance Industries (18.83 points), H D F C Bank (10.47 points), I T C (8.91 points) and Sterlite Industries (India) (7.86 points).

However, Bharti Airtel contributed rise of 18.24 points in the Sensex. It was followed by I C I C I Bank (18.15 points), Infosys Technologies (12.83 points), Tata Steel (11.44 points) and Maruti Suzuki India (7.92 points).


Major gainers in the 30-share index were Bharti Airtel (3.20%), Maruti Suzuki India (2.62%), Tata Steel (2.23%), Hindalco Industries (1.63%), I C I C I Bank (1.41%), and Hindustan Unilever (1.12%).

On the other hand, Jaiprakash Associates (3.18%), Oil & Natural Gas Corporation (3.06%), Wipro (1.94%), Sterlite Industries (India) (1.81%), D L F (1.76%), and Reliance Capital (1.64%) were the major losers in the Sensex.

Sectors in Limelight

The TECk index was at 3,388.85 up by 23.44 points or by 0.70%. The major gainers were Deccan Chronicle Holdings (5.21%), Dish TV India (4.04%), IBN18 Broadcast (3.23%), Bharti Airtel (3.2%) and Idea Cellular (0.61%).

The Auto index was at 7,551.17 up by 34.64 points or by 0.46%. The major gainers were Maruti Suzuki India (2.62%), Bajaj Auto (1.86%), Ashok Leyland (1.47%) and Hero Honda Motors (0.25%).

The Metal index was at 17,902.76 up by 48.32 points or by 0.27%. The major gainers were Jai Corp (20%), Hindalco Industries (1.63%), Ispat Industries (1.58%), Jindal Steel & Power (1.38%) and Gujarat N R E Coke (0.18%).

On the other hand, the Realty index was at 3,923.78 down by 83.13 points or by 2.07%. The major losers were Housing Development and Infrastructure (3.96%), Indiabulls Real Estate (2.11%), D L F (1.76%), Ansal Properties and Infrastructure (0.99%) and Ackruti City (0.96%).

Market Breadth

Market breadth was negative with 1,162 advances against 1,772 declines.

Value and Volume Toppers

Hindustan Copper topped the value chart on the BSE with a turnover of Rs. 2,710.39 million. It was followed by Havell`S India (Rs. 1,758.85 million), Jai Corp (Rs. 1,417.76 million) and Tata Steel (Rs. 1,380.58 million).

The volume chart was led by Cals Refineries with trades of over 24.02 million shares. It was followed by Rashtriya Chemicals & Fertilizers (13.05 million), Vikas Wsp (9.84 million) and Mangalore Chemicals & Fertilzers (8.77 million).
