MW: European shares up, miners take back some losses

LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares rose on Thursday, taking back some sharp losses made in the previous session, with investors returning to the mining sector and pushing up shares of Vedanta Resources (UK:VED 2,653, +24.00, +0.91%) by 1.3% and Lonmin (UK:LMI 1,922, +41.55, +2.21%) shares by 1.3%. Companies updating investors on Thursday included low cost airline easyJet (UK:EZJ 378.50, +13.50, +3.70%) , which saw its shares jump 4.6% after it reported a 10.5% jump in first-quarter revenue. The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.6% to 5,453.14, the German DAX index climbed 0.5% to 5,880.85 and the French CAC-40 index rose 0.7% to 3,956.48.
