AT: Fuel prices on the decline

The cost of gasoline continued to drop in the Peach State as solid supply and low demand caused crude prices to fall, AAA Auto Club South reported.

The average price per gallon of gas in Georgia is $2.621, compared with $2.667 a week ago, $2.44 a month ago and $1.75 a year ago.

The U.S. average price of unleaded regular gasoline is now $2.71 per gallon, a three-cent decrease from last week.

Crude oil steadily dipped last week and is forecast to continue to decline throughout the end of January. Gasoline inventories rose more than three million barrels last week, while U.S. fuel consumption dropped 1.8 percent. Crude oil on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed Friday at $74.54 per barrel -- the lowest since December 22.

"We watched the price of crude oil steadily decrease throughout last week and the price of retail gasoline slowly follow suit," said Jessica Brady, AAA apokeswoman. "It's very likely we will continue to see prices drop this week."
