LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares fell on Wednesday, down for the fifth time in six sessions, with mixed corporate updates not enough to distract investors from ongoing worries about the economic backdrop. Of companies updating investors, Johnson Matthey (UK:JMAT 1,510, +3.00, +0.20%) advanced 1.2%, while Vedanta Resources (UK:VED 2,486, -40.00, -1.59%) shares were down 4.6%. The U.K. FTSE 100 index lost 1.1% at 5,215.29, the German DAX index declined 1.1% to 5,602.63 and the French CAC-40 index fell 1.3% to 3,755.86. |
