CNBC: Asian markets reverse early gains despite US economic reports

HONG KONG - Asian stock markets are mostly lower as positive U.S. economic reports failed to ease worries about the global recovery.

Markets were up early in the day following Wall Street's gain but couldn't hold their advance and resumed the recent falling trend.

Japan's Nikkei 225 stock average rose 166.07 points, or 1.6 percent, to close at 10,371.09 on Tuesday.

Hong Kong's Hang Seng was up 0.3 percent in afternoon trading, while Shanghai's main index closed down 0.2 percent.

Australia's benchmark closed up 1.8 percent.

South Korea's Kospi closed down 0.7 percent, while Taiwan shares lost 1.3 percent.
