LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares made marginal gains on Wednesday, as banks and miners offset earnings-related losses of 2.3% from Swiss drugmaker Roche Holdings (CH:ROG 180.60, +1.40, +0.78%) and of 9.8% from Swedish appliance maker Electrolux (SE:ELUXB 180.80, +2.30, +1.29%) . The U.K. FTSE 100 index rose 0.1% to 5,286.18, the German DAX index advanced 0.3% to 5,724.83 and the French CAC-40 index rose 0.2% to 3,819.84.
