ENM: Gold continues uptrend on buying, firm global cues

NEW DELHI: Gold maintained upward march for the third straight day by adding Rs 155 to reach Rs 16,955 per ten grams in the bullion market here today on increased buying driven by a firming global trend.

Standard gold and ornaments jumped up Rs 155 each to Rs 16,955 and Rs 16,805 per ten grams, respectively, while the sovereign held steady at Rs 14,000 per eight-gram piece in limited deals.

Marketmen said increased buying on account of seasonal demand amid a firming global trend mainly led to a rise in gold and silver prices.

Gold rose by USD 5.50 to USD 1,118.90 an ounce in the international markets.

In line with a general firming trend, silver ready too strengthened further by Rs 50 to Rs 26,450 per kg but weekly-based delivery shed Rs 25 to reach Rs 26,155 per kg.

Silver coins gained Rs 100 to Rs 33,400 for buying and Rs 33,500 for selling of 100 pieces.
