MW: Japan's Nikkei 225 drops below 10,000 level

TOKYO (MarketWatch) -- Japan's Nikkei 225 fell below 10,000 Monday morning in Tokyo to touch its weakest intraday level in almost two months as most exporters and shippers declined. The Nikkei 225 touched a low of 9,952.64, its lowest level since Dec. 11, but has since recouped some of its losses to trade at 10,030.75, down 0.3%. The broader Topix lost 0.2% at 889.69. Shares of Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd. (JP:9104 540.00, -25.00, -4.42%) (MSLOF 6.50, -6.50, -50.00%) and Nippon Yusen K.K. (JP:9101 321.00, -8.00, -2.43%) (NYUKF 3.59, -0.05, -1.38%) each lost 0.9%. Among the exporters, Canon Inc. (JP:7751 3,550, -130.00, -3.53%) (CAJFF 39.99, -39.99, -50.00%) fell 1.6% and Nikon Corp. (JP:7731 1,860, -53.00, -2.77%) (NINOF 21.10, -21.10, -50.00%) fell 2.1%. Elsewhere, South Korea's Kospi shed 0.3% but Australia's S&P/ASX 200 was 0.3% higher.
