MW: India's Sensex rises on software, commodity stocks

HONG KONG (MarketWatch) -- Indian shares rose early Wednesday as a strong rebound on Wall Street overnight helped lift software developers such as Infosys Technologies Ltd. and commodity producers like Tata Steel Ltd. The 30-constituent Sensex gained 0.4% to 16,101.64 and the 50-share S&P/CNX Nifty added 0.3% to 4,808.95 in response to hopes that the European Union may move to rescue Greece from its fiscal debt problems. Infosys (INFY 52.57, -0.72, -1.35%) added 0.5%, Sterlite Industries Ltd. (SLT 16.27, +0.55, +3.50%) rose 1.2% and Tata Steel gained 1%.
