The euro retreated from a 3-day high against the U.S. dollar on Wednesday, after a French source was quoted by Reuters as saying there was no eurozone agreement on an aid package for debt-laden Greece.
During European afternoon trade, EUR/USD fell to 1.3748 from its high on Tuesday at 1.3839, where it was likely to find resistance. The pair was likely to support around 1.3585, Friday's low.
The euro was also down against the yen, with EUR/JPY shedding 0.44% to hit 123.2.
Earlier Wednesday, major financial news outlets quoted German sources as saying that eurozone governments had agreed in principle to come to Greece's assistance.
Meanwhile, data released by an industry group on Wednesday showed that the number of U.S. mortgage applications filed last week fell a seasonally adjusted 1.2%, reflecting reduced demand for home purchase loans.
