At 11.23 hrs IST, the Nifty was trading flat. It was a lackluster session for the markets as Nifty was struggling to gain momentum on either side. Buying was seen in rate sensitive sectors like realty, metal and banking stocks. IT, pharma and power stocks also saw some marginal buying.
The Sensex was up 24.60 points or 0.15% at 16261.65, and the Nifty up 11.85 points or 0.24% at 4868.25. About 1109 shares advanced, 1728 shares declined, and 335 shares were unchanged.
Auto and FMCG stocks continued to remain under pressure. The broader markets were trading in red. New listing Aqua Logistics was the top traded counter on NSE and BSE.
In the largecap space, Hindalco, BHEL, Jaiprakash Associates, Grasim and ICICI Bank were up 1-1.5%. On the losing side, Mahindra and Mahindra, Larsen, ONGC, HUL and ITC were down less than 1% each.
In the realty space, DLF, HDIL, Indiabulls Real, Anant Raj Ind and Ackruti City were trading in green.
In the metal space, NMDC, SAIL, Sterlite Industries, Jindal Steel and Tata Steel shine.
In the banking space, Axis Bank was the top gainer with close to 2% gain. SBI, ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank and HDFC were up 0.5-1%.
In the midcap space, Monsanto India, JSL, Bajaj Holdings, KGN Industries and Ruchi Soya were up 3-6%. Asian Star, Texmaco, Infotech Enter, Rashtriya Chem and Shree Renuka were down 3-7%.
In the smallcap space, Hind Nat Glass, Atul, JMD Telefilms, Venus Remedies and Maharashtra Ele were up 3-9%. AP Paper Mills, Ushdev Int, Ador Welding, Subhkam Capital and Kalindee Rail were down 5-20%.
