LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares lost ground on Thursday, with Deutsche Telecom (DE:DTE 9.43, -0.18, -1.86%) down 1.7%, Credit Agricole (FR:ACA 10.96, +0.44, +4.18%) down 1.4%, and British American Tobacco (UK:BATS 2,186, -45.25, -2.03%) shares falling 1.5% after releasing earnings. In a busy day for corporate news, shares of banking group Royal Bank of Scotland (UK:RBS 38.64, +2.51, +6.95%) managed to buck the lower trend by rising 8.3%. The U.K. FTSE 100 index declined 0.5% to 5,318.11, the German DAX index lost 0.7% at 5,577.68 and the French CAC-40 index fell 0.7% at 3,691.35. |
