BOSTON (MarketWatch) -- The Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund (XLF 14.43, -0.11, -0.76%) opened lower by 0.5% Tuesday and the Dow Jones Industrial Average (DJIA 10,953, -99.18, -0.90%) slipped nearly 100 points as stocks around the globe were hit by Europe's mounting debt crisis. In U.S. economic data, home prices fell 0.7% in September, according to the S&P/Case-Shiller home price index.
