SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) -- Major U.S. airline stocks inched lower early Tuesday, sitting out the rally in the broader stock market, as crude-oil pushed closer to $90 a barrel. In opening trades, decliners included American Airlines parent AMR Corp. (AMR 8.33, -0.05, -0.60%) , United Continental Holdings (UAL 26.65, -0.39, -1.44%) , and Delta Air Lines (DAL 13.39, -0.09, -0.67%) . The NYSE Arca Airline Index (XAL 49.35, +0.02, +0.04%) , which has soared 46% so far this year, was nearly unchanged at 49.38 points. Crude-oil was trading at $89.72 a barrrel in New York trade, up 34 cents from Monday's close. |
