LH: Gas prices resume upward flow, defy seasonal trend
Traditionally, by this time of year, the cost to fill up a tank would have receded for the colder months. But this year, it has continued to climb — up 15 cents since the start of November, according to the Energy Information Administration — bringing an added burden for holiday shoppers and others just trying to get to work.
The average price in the state was $3.23 a gallon Wednesday, compared with $2.86 a year earlier, according to AAA's Daily Fuel Gauge Report.
"It's very annoying," said Victor Matos, 46, owner of a construction company, filling up at a Mobil station on Boston Post Road in Port Chester. It wasn't so much topping off his Volkswagen Jetta that bothered him — that cost $42.56. What frustrated him was having to fill the two construction vans that his employees drive down from Poughkeepsie, where he lives, every day. They cost $150 or more to fill together.
