LONDON (MarketWatch) -- European shares edged higher in early trading Friday as banks, miners and telecoms stocks all contributed to the modest rise. Shares in pharmaceuticals giant AstraZeneca (UK:AZN 2,994, -159.00, -5.04%) , however, dropped 4.2% in early trading after the company said the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a complete response letter on its new drug application for ticagrelor, which requested additional analysis of trial data. Among the main indexes, The U.K.'s FTSE 100 index rose 0.1% to 5,888.72, the French CAC 40 index rose 0.3% to 3,899.90 and the German DAX 30 index rose 0.2% to 7,038.21.
