MADRID (MarketWatch) -- Europe stock markets opened mixed on Wednesday, with gains for utilities such as National Grid PLC (UK:NG. 566.50, +2.50, +0.44%) and Veolia Environnement SA (FR:VIE 22.43, +0.06, +0.25%) as harsh wintry weather continued across the region. The Stoxx Europe 600 index (ST:STOXX600 280.81, -0.30, -0.11%) rose 0.1% to 281.34, while the German DAX 30 index (DX:DAX 7,072, -5.97, -0.08%) was flat at 7,077.85. The French CAC 40 index (FR:PX1 3,921, -6.91, -0.18%) was flat at 3,926.17 and the FTSE 100 index (UK:UKX 5,950, -1.61, -0.03%) rose 0.04% to 5,954.12. Among other sectors, technology and banks were pushing higher. |
