MW: Gold tops $1,400, while copper, other metals jump

NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Gold futures jumped 1.6% on Tuesday, reclaiming the $1,400-an-ounce level, as the dollar fell against a broad range of currencies. Copper also rose, by 0.3% to $4.29 a pound, topping Monday's record-high closing price. Gold for February delivery (GCG11 1,404, +20.80, +1.50%) jumped $22.70 to $1,405.60 an ounce. Silver for March delivery (SIH11 2,981, +55.50, +1.90%) gained 1.8% to $29.77 an ounce. Palladium and platinum also both rose 1% or more.
