BS: Gold Revenue Hits US$2.611bn In Nine Months

Ghana’s revenue from gold mining rose 30 percent to US$2.611billion during the first nine months of 2010, according to figures released by the Ghana Chamber of Mines.

The country’s gold output also increased three percent during the period compared to a year earlier.

Ghana, the second-biggest gold miner after South Africa, produced some 2.24 million ounces of gold during the period compared to 2.17 million ounces in the first nine months of 2009.

According to the data, diamond generated US$9.160million in revenues during the period compared to US$4.865million in 2009. Bauxite also brought in US$13.886million, higher than US$8.134million in 2009, with manganese accounting for US$49.197million, slightly higher than 2009’s outturn of US$48.789million.

The record high gold prices in recent months have reinforced the metal’s price performance the last two years, with the trend set to boost profits and export earnings accruing to mining companies and producing countries, respectively.
