WBJ: World Economic Forum launches

The 41st World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, which runs from January 26-30, will bring together over 2,500 industry leaders, heads of state, academics, and representatives of civil society and the media to discuss, and attempt to resolve, key issues of global concern.

The Polish delegation is comprised this year of Polish President Bronisław Komorowski, Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski, Finance Minister Jacek Rostowski, the head of the Warsaw Stock Exchange, Ludwik Sobolewski, and deputy head of the National Bank of Poland Witold Kozinski.

“For Polish leaders, [this is] an excellent opportunity to promote the Polish investment market as an attractive and reliable partner in politics, economics and business,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Marcin Bosacki said in a statement.

Mr Komorowski’s first official meeting with business leaders is scheduled for Thursday at an event organized by the WSE. The president is also expected to hold a panel discussion on Friday with Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych to promote the Euro 2012 soccer championships, which the two countries will co-host in July 2012.

Also on Friday, Mr Komorowski and Mr Sikorski will participate in a plenary session on Europe's energy future.

For his part, Mr Sikorski is expected to participate in panel discussions on diplomacy in the digital age, the West’s involvement in Afghanistan and the role of the G20 in the multilateral system.

The Chancellery of the President declined to confirm or deny rumors that Mr Komorowski could meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in Davos.

Mr Medvedev was still expected to attend the event and deliver the keynote speech on Wednesday, despite the January 24 blast at Domodedovo Airport, which killed 35 people.
