WSJ: Euro Falls Across The Board After Trichet Less Hawkish
LONDON (Dow Jones)--The euro slumped across the board Thursday after European Central Bank president Jean-Claude Trichet disappointed those looking for comments that indicated an interest rate rise could come soon.
The euro fell to as low as $1.3656 against the dollar, having traded at $1.3760 before Trichet's speech.
Trichet told a press conference that at 1.0%, the ECB's policy rate remains "appropriate" but added that "very close monitoring" of price developments is "warranted."
At 1400 GMT, the euro was at $1.3658 against the dollar and at the day's low of GBP0.8443 against the pound.
